Trends in Pharmacologic Management of Hypertension in Inje University Seoul Paik Hospital




Abstract
We studied the evolution in choice of antihypertensive therapy in Inje University Paik Hospital. To accomplish this, we performed a retrospective analysis of 516 patients who had been regularly followed up between 1985 and 1993. Proportionate use
of the
seven antihypertensive drug classes chifted markedly. Proportionate use as first step of diuretics showed the greatest gain, increasing from 8% to 26% and calcium channel blocker, increasing from 21% to 37%, while the use of beta blockers showed
decreasing from 25% to 12%. Calcium channel blockers were the most common agents prescribed, followed by diuretics, alpha blockers, and beta blockers. In 1992 calcium channel blckers were the most common first step drug, followed by beta
blockers,
and
diuretics, and alpha blockers were the most common agents prescribed, followed by calcium channel blockers, and diuretics.
